Weather and Inspiration

I was inspired by the lovely warm weather here. I have also been inspired and encouraged to finish a few works in progress that have been in progress far too long.

It's been too long a winter, and I have been anxious to have a change of scenery. Homework outside? That's not work at all!

So my latest finished project (save a few reinforcements on the connections) is what I decided to make of the three motifs I created from Edie Eckman's book, Beyond the Square. I also loved seeing Lucy of Attic24's Japanese Flower Scarf. I started with three Eckman Motif 36es, and now this!

I should also give a shout out to Alicia at Posie Gets Cozy. Because I can't seem to grow anything but poison ivy, I'll have to settle for crocheted flowers instead of the lovely potted onesshe posted recently. Maybe I'll organize a perennial swap...

Slainte!!

So it is finally a bright, sunny and warm day here.

I overslept this morning, so I missed my opportunity to be downtown for the Saint Patrick's Day parade... My Spring Break is almost over, and I worry I have little to show for it. I am still studying, reading and writing for all of my classes. I enjoyed teaching all day yesterday, which I do every Wednesday. I have fininshed only two projects:

I finished watching the HBO series John Adams. Wow! It was so good. Watching something like that makes me want to read David McCullough. I can't believe what I don't know about American History. I can't believe the misconceptions I adopted and kept from my public education.

Last night I finished my niece's pink granny square blanket. I'm thinking it would benefit from blocking, so calling it finished could be premature, but the most laborious part is history.

Last week, I went with a friend to hear Bob Woodward at the local library's annual lecture. It was really good. There's a lot he knows that I still don't. Add David McCullough AND Bob Woodward to my reading list.

Wilson and I just took a rather long walk to enjoy the lovely and much-anticipated weather. I think we'll take another one in a few hours. And a bicycle ride. I think I'll ride up to the library to return John Adams.

 

 

 

More Winter Blahs with Intermittent Highlights

My weekend was very full. Full of studying, homework, friends, family and weather. Another winter storm dropped drifting, wet snow on the city Friday. This resulted in my class being canceled. I used the time to work on homework. And projects. And yes, snow management.

Saturday was a grey, bone-chilling cold. A good day to meet friends for breakfast and to stand in solidarity with Wisconsin and new and old friends at the statehouse.

It seriously took a late afternoon nap under layers and layers of blankets to warm up.

Sunday brought brunch with a friend and an afternoon and evening of watching my adorable nephew play basketball and my equally adorable niece entertain everyone she saw. Not having any children, I love going to these things for other peoples' kids, but I could never do it. Seriously, if I had kids, they'd hate me. I'd park them in front of an easel rather than all that running around, but that's just me.

Sunday night brought torrential rain, high winds, tornado sirens at 2:30 am, and a night of trembling critters all over me. Poor babies. I woke to a wet basement and hungry animals who had either refused to eat or had been too upset to eat the night before.

Monday is my day to catch up on homework. I did that, and I managed to take a long chilly but sunny walk with my best buddy Wilson, some research and observation at my public library branch, a trip to the grocery and ...what else? Oh! More homework. This semester is serious business.

Now that it's well into a new week and the beginning of a new month, I am looking forward to a little settling down. Chances are that won't happen, though. More weather is in the forecast for the weekend. The good news is that spring break is only days away. I'm putting my head down and sprinting for it.
