This afternoon I am listening to Luscious Jackson. It seems a good match for my mood today.
My weekend with the old High School beau was interesting. As I bite my tongue, I am remembering that, although my mother never said it to me, many mothers teach their children, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." With that, I will share that it was immediately obvious to me that I am as smart or smarter than I was some 20 years ago, when I originally realized why things would never work out with him. Any comments about him directly would be inappropriate here (see maternal lesson mentioned above). It was at least nice that he asked to see my parents and was exceedingly kind and gracious when we stopped to visit with my Dad for a few minutes.
Let me pat myself on the back a bit, too. While I would never attempt to pass myself off as faultless, I am confident and happy to report that my faults are not hurtful to other people. I do a fairly good job of keeping cruel commentary about people to myself. I think it's called being civilized.
The latter half of my weekend was nice, though. I did a little pedaling about when it wasn't raining, and I did a little thrift-store shopping which proved very successful. One of my finds was a granny square blanket for $2. While the blanket itself is in candy-coated colors that could decay your teeth, I quickly grabbed it. The store where I found it has a practice of washing everything they put out for sale and it sometimes results in ruining the item (unless you're me and you're constantly looking for repurposing ideas). This particular blanket had been machine washed and dried, so the fact that it was beginning to felt was a giveaway that it was made with wool yarn. Oh, warm, wooly blankie, it will be worth hiding you under other blankets in the winter! Thank you, anonymous person who lovingly picked wool yarn to lovingly crochet a blanket for someone you must have loved! I love my friends and family, but they probably shouldn't expect a wool blanket from me any time soon.
